Floods and delays on the roads, and at airports, have caused misery and chaos for thousands of holiday makers getting away for the first week of the school summer holidays.

Under most , albeit a little late and do spare a thought for those less fortunate back home as you are soaking up that Mediterranean sun.

And now itâ??s official, well according to Thomas Cook it is. With over
30 tour operators and more that 20 airlines failing in 2008, the head
of Thomas Cooke has predicted that up to 15 more British travel
companies will collapse in the first quarter of 2009.

This is being put down to cash flow problems during the leanest
months of the year. â??If companies can survive the next three months
they should be fine, but this period is crucial, he said.

The financial crisis is likely to claim more victims so it is
important to get some protection. Some insurers offer Passenger
Protection Insurance, often termed Dynamic Packaging Protection, sold
separately or part of a , require their members to protect their
customerâ??s money in the event of an AITO member going into
liquidation.

Sailing is a participant day out where teamwork of the crew is the key of success corporate days out on the water can give some of the best bonding experiences for the staff and clients of a firm.

Perhaps the best place to conduct such corporate days is in the centre of UK sailing, the Solent. The is a highly refined trade sailing craft and a day spent experiencing the power and complexity of the rig of these sailing barges involves significant amount of communication and participation by all those involved. Thames sailing barges vary in size being between 70 an 120 ft long and they have very large deck areas and a large internal cabin space with 7ft 6 ins headroom, this makes them also ideal for static corporate events. They have significant accommodation often with many berths, ideal should it be expedient to stay overnight. A , the power of the Sailing Barge coupled with the speed of the RIB makes the day one neither the staff or the clients will forget. The resulting corporate benefit though not precisely measurable can be best judged by the enthusiasm that will exude from the participants after the day out.

Bags do go missing, as witnessed during last year’s disastrous opening
of Heathrow’s Terminal 5, but regrettably the high incidence of theft
abroad goes largely unreported.

But it is a growing problem and affects thousands of holidaymakers
abroad each year. Generally when we go abroad, our guard is down and
this is what the professional gangs and pickpockets look out for.

Whilst baggage that is lost, whilst under the control of the
airline, may be attributed to theft, generally this will be marked down
as lost in transit and a claim against the carrier and , High Commission or Consulate who
will be able to issue you with an emergency replacement passport to get
you home.

General

Marinas can be found in harbours, ports or on river waterfronts. These marinas can accommodate a variety of boats, including motorboats, sailboats, fishing boats, cruise ships and yachts, as well as the house boat. Some marinas cater to cruise boats on a large scale while others operate on a smaller scale, accommodating motorboats and sailboats.

The Reeds Almanac is a good starting point when choosing a , as with everything in life shop around and try to negotiate where possible on the whole berth agreement.

If you are laying up your motor-boat for a few months fuel contamination could be a real problem when starting up again.

Marine Red Diesel
Condensation in diesels tanks is the most common problem and it is
recommended to avoid any space being taken up with moisture all tanks
are filled for the lay- up periods. As , under
the tank with a drip tray or leave a 10 % clearance space at the top of
the tank to allow for expansion especially in the summer months. If
cruising outside the U.K. in warmer climes you may need to increase the
clearance space mentioned above to prevent spillage due to increased
expansion!

News that a schoolboy is being held by police in connection with a
hit-and-run ski death at an Italian resort, shows how inherent the
dangers are on the slopes.

This is a very tragic accident that, though still a rare occurrence,
is not an isolated event and resorts in Switzerland and Austria now
have speed patrols to take action against the â??boy racersâ?? and
â??speed merchantsâ?? who endanger others by their actions.

Other countries will follow suit as this trend increases. But alarm
bells should be ringing here, not just against the rise in the accident
rate on the slopes, but that recent surveys still show a high number of
people going abroad without any , it
does seem to be an unnecessary risk to take. It is not necessary to pay
through the nose these days and if you are prepared to surf the net
then there some excellent deals to be had.

Ski resorts have opened early across Europe and those going to North
america will find resorts in Canada and New England doing the same.

Andorra in the Pyrenees is reporting the best start to a season for
40 years with record snowfall. Despite the pound sliding against both
the Euro and the dollar, holiday prices appear to be lower than last
year in many European countries, as much as 20% cheaper according to
the latest survey from Co-operative Travel and in North America, the
